Raw Montage

First scene we shot took a lot of our time because we wanted a shot with perfect lighting, good movement of the camera, less shadows showing, making sure if the actor did a good job in acting. All of this had to be taken in consideration for just 1 shot. The only shots that made to the movie, as mentioned above, had perfect lighting, acting was spot-on, directed correctly. The shots we took in the end are supposed to be in the beginning of the movie.  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1V-2vkxhXC0nBgE13Sg88iy6WTHFvG8DN?usp=sharing This link above has two shots that we used in the film. The shot labelled shot 2, was trimmed till the opening door scene because we didn't need too much hallway in our film, and it looked a little unnecessary. Shot 1(labelled) was the last shot we took and it's actually the first shot for our film.

Editing Day 1

Image
The shooting was complete and approved by all members. We obviously had to recheck if every scene was shot correctly. So today, we did our first try on editing. We used the software Adobe Premiere Pro.  At first, it was a little difficult to understand but our teacher instructed us with the basic main parts. All we did today was assemble and join all the scenes and shots together to make it come together. This way we were able to tell that all the scenes really come off as an opening sequence or not. AND IT DID!!! We were so happy that it actually looks good when put together. We did the usual, first draft editing where we trimmed a few shots, increased the speed duration on a few, and obviously make sure that it all comes together for 2 minutes total. CHARACTER

Image
We had only one character in our opening sequence and that was my friend Najia.      This is Najia Tarique and she was our main and only character in the opening sequence. We asked our friends if they were willing to act in our sequence and Najia said she would be happy too. She has a real passion for acting and I think she did a pretty good job, she followed the director's orders and bear with us in the shoot which had many retakes. We needed her in just one set of clothes that was the night suit, pajamas and t-shirt was the casual wear that suited the story line. She's suitable for the audience because she is around the same age as our target audience. A lot of students, around the ages of 17 are interested in horror genres, and her acting out a few horror scenes would bring more excitement from the audience.

SHOOT DAY

Image
Our opening sequence wasn't a long process, to be honest. We planned 1 day for shooting all the scenes, and were hoping to get it done in that one day.  The shoot took 3 hours in total. Since the genre was horror, and we wanted low light so we had to wait for the sun to start setting. We started shooting after 5 pm, that's when the sun is starting to leave. The room was well lit artificially so that wasn't a problem, the problem was we needed less light but just enough to make our subject clear.  the first scene that we shot took longer than we expected because a) we are not experienced b) we had to keep redoing it for the perfect shot. The makeup on our character took some time as well Makeup was done by our group member ; Fatima.  The bathroom shot didn't take much long but was quite an effort to make it blend into the rest of the scenes. The last scenes we shot were actually the first scenes we have in our opening sequence. Since they looked p...

Moodboard

Most of these images are similar to our concept. Other members of the team may have thought of it differently, but for me this is how i visioned it in my mind every time we discussed empty hallways, or glitch movie title.

Target Audience Questionnaire

Since we have already decided the genre of our opening sequence, i wanted to do a short survey between my friends and family.  Now, this survey i feel is important because it will help me in understanding the audience and representation of our opening sequence in a clearer way. Not only that it does help in making the right choice of shots, locations and any changes in the script. I conducted this questionnaire before i wrote the final draft of my script so that we can make any changes to the way we shoot and/or edit it. You'll see why ;  The first question i asked was the most simple and basic. The entire questionnaire had to be based around this question. According to this, most of the people do watch horror or thriller movies so our opening sequence isn't going to be a boring one. I honestly, wasn't expecting this result. A lot of people feel like a movie with good acting, suspense or thriller, sound effects just isn't enough. It has to have a good story li...
