9 FRAME FILM ANALYSIS

Here is an image of the 9 frame analysis of a movie "Lady Bird"

Each frame have a particular meaning and a level of importance to the film. As you can see from the image above, the first nine shots involve titles as well. The titles all have a particular purpose and its generally put in order of importance.

The overall color scheme in these frames is very neutral, like shades of brown, nude, white. No bright or shocking color can be seen in these frames which may depict the mundane and monotonous routine of the people. And now that I've mentioned people, they're students as seen by the classes and gathering. The 9 frames altogether target a certain audience, which may be students.

The first frame shows a character under a spotlight. Now it's pretty obvious that the first frame that is of a character is main one. This has been done to make it easy for the audience to know who the focus should be on. It seems like they're gathered to prayers as all the students are in sync either singing or talking, with their hands raised. The first frame also shows the title of who's presenting the film, or the credits of the film.

The second frame shows the title of the film. This font, has been chosen, to make it clear and bold for the audience to read. Again, even the titles and credits shown are in the same shade of neutral brown/nude.

This frame stands out to be the most important one because it shows the title of the film. The title is not displayed over a zoomed in object, or something that would be remembered by the audience. Instead, it is displayed over a wide shot of just people.

In the third frame, students are seated in a classroom. This again is a very general shot, like an overview of whats happening. But this is the frame which makes it clear for the audience to understand that these are students and they're in a school and the storyline will revolve around students, as well as many scenes will be taken in this setting. The title credits on this frame has a name on it. This is the main character's name, to make it clearer to understand who the main character is.

In the fourth frame, I can see that its a wide shot. Showing the whole setting of the first 2 frames. All students are dressed in uniforms, girls and boys differently. The teachers, or the staff can also be seen wearing similar clothes. The school looks like a religious one, as this setting looks like that of a church, and the way the staff is dressed. The title on this frame is a name of person starring in the movie, and they may be one of the supporting actors.

The fifth frame is a closeup of our main character's face. This is the first closeup frame uptil now so it must carry some importance. This frame is an emphasis on the character and her expression as well. She basically has no unique expression on her face that does show the monotonous in her life(particularly). This monotony is shown the frames over and over again to display its genre more clearly that is of Comedy-Drama. Again, the title on this frame is a name of a supporting actor.

In the sixth frame, there's a hall room and a few students and staff members sitting on chairs aligned and speaking to a group of people. There's just one person in the center, speaking while everybody is listening. This may show the decorum and discipline of the school.

The seventh frame is similar to the first few frames. This makes it more clearer for the audience to know that the students are performing some religious duties. The title on this frame is for music which shows that for any drama how important music is and how much of a difference it can make for the whole movie. Maybe the music adds to the vibe of the movie. Also, since, the target audience includes teenagers, it is important to connect them to the movie through music and songs.

Again, the eighth frame goes back to that of a classroom. The girls are sitting around the teacher listening to her. The title on this frame is of production designer. This may show the importance of production in the film.

The last frame is again of the main character. The final frame shows the holding of hands, although it does look very ordinary thing to do in a religious gathering but it may have a deeper meaning to it. Which could be that the main character is surrounded by mutual support of her peers. And the girl sitting next to her (who's name is also in one of the frame titles )  (who is also in the full frame compared to the other girl who's not) may be her very good friend and supporter. The title on this frame is the most important as it is of the writer and director's name, Greta, who created this movie and story.

The title card is in an ornate gothic font while the rest of the titles are in a pared down contemporary font, letting the audience know that under the guise of the average modern teenager lies a more complex character.
